DICTATION FOR WRITERS

If you dictate your drafts, you have probably hit the same wall: the good transcription tools want your voice and your unpublished work in their cloud, where it can be used to train their models. Voquence is built the other way. Your audio is transcribed on your Mac and never leaves it.

THE ONE-LINER

Dictate your drafts. They never leave your Mac.

Transcription runs on-device with a local Whisper model. No upload, no account, no API key, and that part is free. You speak, the text lands at your cursor in whatever you write in.

WHAT WRITERS ACTUALLY NEED

1

Your drafts stay yours

Most dictation services send your audio and text to their servers, and many reserve the right to train on it or have human contractors review it. For an unpublished manuscript, that is a real risk. Voquence's Local Whisper transcribes on your Mac. Nothing leaves the machine, so your plot and characters are not someone else's training data.

2

It spells your character names right

Fiction lives on proper nouns, and generic dictation butchers invented names every time. Voquence has a Custom Dictionary: add your characters, places, and made-up words once, and it spells them correctly from then on, even offline.

3

Not another subscription

The private local part of Voquence is free. No monthly fee to dictate your own words. If you later want the AI clean-up modes, there is a one-time Founding License or an optional subscription, but you never need them for private dictation.

WHY MOST TOOLS FAIL WRITERS

  • Built-in dictation (Google Docs, Word, your OS) is fast but fumbles names and long prose, so you spend the saved time cleaning up.
  • Cloud transcription (Otter, Descript, and similar) is accurate but uploads your work and often uses it to train models or routes it through human reviewers.
  • Raw local Whisper is private and accurate but usually means Python, a terminal, or hiring a freelancer. Most writers do not want to become developers to dictate a chapter.

HOW VOQUENCE FITS

  • On-device transcription. Turn on Local Whisper and your audio is transcribed on your Mac. No cloud, no key, free.
  • Custom Dictionary. Load in your character and place names so they come out right.
  • A normal Mac app. Notarized by Apple. No Python, no terminal. Download, grant microphone permission, talk.
  • Pastes at your cursor. In Scrivener, Word, Pages, a plain text file, wherever you write.
  • Honest about the cloud part. Optional AI modes that tidy rough prose do use the cloud (your own key or a paid plan). You never need them for private dictation.
